About

open-dpp is an open-source platform for managing digital product passports (DPPs).

Note: open-dpp is under active development and is rapidly evolving. Features, APIs, and architecture may change frequently, and a stable release has not yet been established. We recommend using open-dpp for testing and experimentation purposes only at this stage.

Digital product passports

Within Europe’s circular economy, the digital product passport acts as a shared data backbone for products from creation to end-of-life. It brings together standardized details such as material composition, provenance, emissions impact, repair options, recyclability, and applicable regulatory compliance. By providing this information in a trusted format, the DPP supports secure product-data exchange across every stage of the value chain.

Goal and Purpose

open-dpp is built to support compliance with emerging and applicable EU Digital Product Passport requirements by design. In practical terms, the platform aims to provide a structured, interoperable, and secure way to manage product data that regulators and market participants increasingly require under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) framework and sector-specific legislation such as the EU Batteries Regulation. Its purpose is to help organizations maintain consistent lifecycle data, improve traceability across supply chains, and make sustainability, circularity, and compliance information accessible to authorized stakeholders in a reliable digital format.
